Picidae — Woodpeckers

Ocellated Piculet, Picumnus dorbignyanus, is a woodpecker from south-east Peru and western Bolivia, with breeding records in central Peru between Huánuco and Cuzco and in western Bolivia. It was described by Lafresnaye in 1845. It lives in humid montane forest and mature secondary forest, both within the interior and along the margins, and it also uses bushy undergrowth with vines, creepers and epiphytes. The species is generally sedentary, though it may shift to lower ground in winter. It nests in holes, and its diet is known to include insects.
