Ocellated Quail, Cyrtonyx ocellatus, is a New World quail in the family Odontophoridae and order Galliformes, breeding in Middle America from south-west Mexico to Nicaragua. It lives in shrubland and in open pine and oak forest, usually at 750 to 3,050 m. The adult male has a black and white patterned face, a tawny crest, striped white throat and strongly marked underparts, while the female shows a buff and black face, tawny crest and wine-red breast and belly with dark markings. It is terrestrial and digs for tubers and roots, and also takes insects.
