Ochre-breasted Puffleg

The Ochre-breasted Puffleg (Metallura odomae) is a striking hummingbird species found in the Andes of South America. It is characterized by its iridescent green upperparts, contrasting with the ochre-colored breast and belly. This species is known for its long, straight bill and rapid wingbeats. Ochre-breasted Pufflegs are typically found in montane cloud forests and high-altitude shrublands, where they feed on nectar from a variety of flowering plants. They may also consume small insects as a source of protein. Due to habitat loss and potential climate change impacts, the conservation status of the Ochre-breasted Puffleg is currently listed as Vulnerable by the IUCN.
