Ochre-collared Piculet, Picumnus temminckii, is a woodpecker of south-eastern Brazil, eastern Paraguay and north-eastern Argentina. It breeds in lowland rainforest with bamboo, vines and dense undergrowth, and also uses secondary growth, thickets, tall scrub, parks and gardens. Its name comes from the cinnamon-buff collar on the hindneck. Adults show a black cap, with red on the male’s forehead, and the female lacks this. The species is a year-round resident and forages on thin branches, usually low down in the forest.
