Olivaceous Piculet

Picumnus olivaceus

The Olivaceous Piculet is a small woodpecker found in South America. It has a distinctive olive-green plumage with a speckled pattern on the underparts. This species is known for its habit of foraging for insects on tree trunks and branches, using its sharp bill to peck and probe for food. It often emits a high-pitched, rapid trill as part of its vocalizations. The Olivaceous Piculet is typically found in humid forests, wooded savannas, and forest edges, where it can be observed in pairs or small groups. Despite its small size, this bird plays an important role in its ecosystem by controlling insect populations.
