Olive-backed Euphonia

Olive-backed Euphonia, Euphonia gouldi, is a passerine of the Fringillidae family that breeds in Middle America from south-east Mexico to Panama. It was first named by Sclater in 1857. The species is a small euphonia with a thick, stubby bill, and the sexes differ in plumage. The nominate form and E. g. praetermissa are recognised, with the latter smaller than the former. It lives mainly in tropical rainforest, especially within and along the edges, and also uses mature secondary forest and gardens. It is a year-round resident.
