Olive-backed Oriole

Oriolus sagittatus (Latham, 1801)

Olive-backed Oriole, Oriolus sagittatus, breeds in the Trans-Fly of south-central New Guinea and in northern and eastern Australia. It is a passerine in the family Oriolidae and was first described by Latham in 1801. This is the most wide-ranging of the Australasian orioles, and it is often noticed because it is noisy and easy to see. It is found in open woodland and can cope with drier country, though not desert. Its plumage is not bright, with an olive back, dark streaking and a pale breast marked with black.
