Olive-backed Tanager

Mitrospingus oleagineus (Salvin, 1886)

Mitrospingidae — Mitrospingid Tanagers

Olive-backed Tanager, Mitrospingus oleagineus, is a passerine of the Mitrospingidae family that lives on the tepuis of South America, in the border region of Venezuela, Guyana and Brazil. It is tied to humid and wet forest on these isolated table mountains, where it uses the slopes and ranges from 900 to 1,800 m. The species has two subspecies, with the eastern form occurring in extreme south-eastern Venezuela, nearby west-central Guyana and far northern Brazil, and the other in south-eastern Bolívar state, probably extending into adjoining Brazil.
