Olive-crowned Crescentchest, Melanopareia maximiliani, is a passerine of the Melanopareiidae family that breeds in south-central South America, including Argentina, Bolivia and Paraguay. It is a dry-country bird of scrub and grassy ground with scattered bushes, and one form also uses sawgrass in the Chaco Basin. The species is placed in the genus Melanopareia, and three subspecies are recognised. The nominate form occurs in western Bolivia, M. m. argentina in central Bolivia and north-western Argentina, and M. m. pallida in south-eastern Bolivia, western Paraguay and northern Argentina.
