Olive-headed Weaver

Bostrychia olivacea

The Olive-headed Weaver (Bostrychia olivacea) is a small passerine bird found in the forests and woodlands of central and eastern Africa. This species is known for its distinctive olive-green head and upperparts, contrasted with a bright yellow underbelly. The male Olive-headed Weaver is known for its intricate woven nests, which are often suspended from the tips of branches. These birds are primarily insectivorous, foraging for small insects and larvae in the foliage of trees. The Olive-headed Weaver is known for its melodious song, often heard in the early morning and late afternoon. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation pose potential risks to the population.
