Olive Sparrow

Camptostoma obsoletum

The Olive Sparrow (Camptostoma obsoletum) is a small, secretive bird found in dense brushy habitats of southern Texas, northeastern Mexico, and Central America. It has a plump body, a rounded tail, and a distinctive olive-green plumage with streaks of brown on the back and wings. The head is adorned with a gray crown and a prominent white eye ring. Olive Sparrows forage on the ground for insects, seeds, and berries, and their song is a series of clear whistles and trills. They are often heard but can be difficult to spot due to their shy nature and preference for thick vegetation.
