Omao

Myadestes obscurus

The Omao (Myadestes obscurus) is a species of thrush native to the Hawaiian Islands. It is known for its melodious and flute-like song, often heard in the dense forests of its habitat. The Omao is a medium-sized bird with a dark plumage and a distinctive white eye ring. It forages for insects, berries, and small fruits in the understory and canopy of native forests. This species plays a vital role in seed dispersal and maintaining the ecological balance of its habitat. However, it faces threats from habitat loss, invasive species, and avian diseases.
