Orange-bellied Trogon

Lipaugus uropygialis

The Orange-bellied Trogon is a medium-sized bird found in the cloud forests of Central and South America. It is known for its vibrant plumage, with a deep blue head, green back, and striking orange belly. This species is often found perched quietly in the forest understory, where it feeds on a diet of insects and small fruits. Its distinctive call can be heard echoing through the dense foliage. The Orange-bellied Trogon plays a vital role in forest ecosystems as a seed disperser. However, habitat loss and fragmentation pose significant threats to its populations.
