Orange-billed Lorikeet

Neopsittacus pullicauda Hartert, EJO, 1896

Orange-billed Lorikeet, Neopsittacus pullicauda, is a Psittaculidae parrot of montane New Guinea, breeding from western to north-eastern areas, including the Huon Peninsula, and in south-eastern New Guinea. It was first described by Hartert in 1896. It is found in cloud forest, along forest margins, and in cleared ground beside forest at high elevations. Adults are mainly green, with a red underside and fine yellow markings on the cheeks. It is similar to the yellow-billed lorikeet, but is smaller, more richly coloured, and has a smaller orange bill.
