Orange-breasted Sunbird

Anthreptes aurantius

The Orange-breasted Sunbird is a small, nectar-feeding bird found in southern Africa. It has a distinctive orange breast and throat, with metallic green upperparts and a long, slender, down-curved bill adapted for feeding on nectar. These sunbirds are often found in fynbos, woodland, and gardens, where they feed on nectar from a variety of flowering plants. They also consume insects and spiders. During the breeding season, the male performs elaborate aerial displays to attract females. The species is known for its high-pitched, twittering calls. Although currently not globally threatened, habitat loss and degradation are potential threats to its populations.
