Pyrilia barrabandi

The Orange-cheeked Parrot, scientifically known as Pyrilia barrabandi, is a charming medium-sized parrot found in the Amazon rainforest of South America. This species is recognized by its vibrant plumage, featuring a predominantly green body with striking orange cheeks and a blue crown. These sociable parrots are often observed in small flocks, displaying acrobatic flight patterns and emitting high-pitched calls. Orange-cheeked Parrots primarily feed on fruits, seeds, and nuts, and they play a crucial role in seed dispersal within their habitat. Unfortunately, due to habitat loss and capture for the pet trade, their population is declining, and they are classified as Near Threatened by the IUCN.
