Pytilia afra (Gmelin, JF, 1789)

Orange-winged Pytilia, Pytilia afra, is a passerine in the Estrildidae family that breeds across Africa from south Sudan and Ethiopia south to north-east South Africa, and west to south-eastern DR Congo and western Angola. It is a finch with a broad African range. The species was first described in 1789 by Gmelin. It is placed in the genus Pytilia and has no recognised subspecies. Its breeding range is linked to edges of forest, miombo woodland and wooded grassland, usually in moist places, and it occurs up to 1,800 m above sea level.
