Falco severus

The Oriental Hobby (Falco severus) is a small, slender falcon found in parts of Asia. It has a distinctive dark head and a pale underside with fine black streaks. This agile bird of prey is known for its swift flight and impressive hunting skills, preying on small birds and insects. It inhabits open woodlands, grasslands, and forest edges, often seen near water bodies. The Oriental Hobby is a migratory species, traveling long distances between its breeding and wintering grounds. Despite facing threats from habitat loss and pesticide use, its population status is currently assessed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
