Oriental Turtle Dove

Oriental Turtle Dove, Streptopelia orientalis, is a pigeon in the family Columbidae that breeds across central and eastern Asia, including India and south-east Asia. It is a widespread bird of wooded country, and the northern populations move south for winter while those nearer the tropics stay put. Its plumage varies across its range, with several named forms recognised. It is close in appearance to the Turtle Dove, but shows a browner wing pattern, a less pink breast and the striped neck patch typical of the group. It feeds on the ground, mainly on seeds.
