Ornate Flycatcher

Myiotriccus ornatus

The Ornate Flycatcher is a small, insect-eating bird found in the forests and woodlands of South America. It is known for its distinctive plumage, with males sporting bright yellow underparts, a black crown, and a striking white eyering. Females are more subdued in coloration, with olive-green upperparts and pale yellow underparts. These agile birds forage for insects by making short sallies from perches in the understory, often catching their prey in mid-air. They are known for their melodious, high-pitched songs, which can often be heard echoing through the forest. The Ornate Flycatcher is not currently considered at risk, but habitat loss and fragmentation are potential threats to its populations.
