Ornate Sunbird, Cinnyris ornatus, is a resident bird of southern China, Myanmar, Thailand, Indochina, the Malay Peninsula and the Greater and Lesser Sundas, with breeding also recorded in the Andaman Islands. It belongs to the sunbird family Nectariniidae and was first described in 1827 by Lesson. The male of the nominate form is set apart from the garden sunbird by a purple-black sheen on the forehead and paler yellow underparts. The species is found in mangroves, forest edges, open scrub, parks and gardens. It also has a long hanging nest with a side entrance, and the female lays one to three eggs.
