Ornate White-browed Sparrow

Calcarius ornatus

The Ornate White-browed Sparrow, also known as the Chestnut-collared Longspur, is a small, ground-dwelling bird found in the grasslands and prairies of North America. This species is known for its striking black and white plumage, with males displaying a distinctive chestnut collar during the breeding season. Ornate White-browed Sparrows forage for seeds and insects on the ground, often forming large flocks outside of the breeding season. Their breeding habitat includes open grasslands and prairies with sparse vegetation. Despite being a relatively common species, the Ornate White-browed Sparrow faces threats from habitat loss and agricultural intensification.
