Oropendola

Psarocolius bifasciatus

The Oropendola (Psarocolius bifasciatus) is a striking bird found in the forests and woodlands of Central and South America. Known for its distinctive long tail and bright yellow plumage, the Oropendola is a social species often seen in large, noisy flocks. These birds are known for their intricate hanging nests, which they construct in the treetops. Oropendolas are omnivorous, feeding on fruits, insects, and small vertebrates. They play an important role in seed dispersal within their habitats. Due to habitat loss and fragmentation, the Oropendola faces conservation challenges in some parts of its range.
