Ovenbird

Seiurus aurocapilla

The Ovenbird (Seiurus aurocapilla) is a small, ground-foraging warbler found in the forests of North America. It is named for its distinctive domed nest that resembles a Dutch oven. This species is known for its loud, ringing song that resembles the phrase 'teacher, teacher, teacher.' The Ovenbird has olive-brown upperparts, a white belly with bold black streaking, and a bright orange crown patch. It forages on the forest floor, flipping leaves to uncover insects and other invertebrates. This species prefers mature deciduous or mixed forests with dense undergrowth and can be found in both primary and secondary forests.
