Pacific Black Duck

Anas superciliosa

The Pacific Black Duck, also known as Anas superciliosa, is a medium-sized dabbling duck found in Australia, New Zealand, and nearby islands. It has a mottled brown plumage with a distinctive glossy green patch on its wings. This species is known for its adaptability and can be found in a variety of wetland habitats, including rivers, lakes, and estuaries. Pacific Black Ducks are often seen foraging for food by upending in shallow water or grazing on land. They are known for their distinctive quacking calls and are a common sight in both urban and rural areas. Despite facing some threats from habitat loss and hunting, the Pacific Black Duck is considered to be of Least Concern by the IUCN.
