Pacific Emerald Dove

Pacific Emerald Dove, Chalcophaps longirostris, is a pigeon of Australasia, breeding in the Lesser Sundas, northern and central Australia, eastern New Guinea and south-east satellites through to Vanuatu and New Caledonia. It is a resident bird of tropical and subtropical regions. The species is found in rainforest and other thick wet woodland, and also uses farms, gardens, mangroves and coastal heath. It is a stocky, medium-sized dove with bright emerald green on the back and wings, blackish flight feathers and tail, and a dark vinous pink head and underparts. The bill is bright red, and the legs and feet are rufous.
