Pacific Kingfisher

Todiramphus sordidus

The Pacific Kingfisher (Todiramphus sordidus) is a medium-sized bird found in the Pacific Islands. It has a distinctive blue and white plumage with a long, pointed bill and a short tail. These agile birds are often seen perched near water bodies, where they hunt for small fish and aquatic invertebrates. They are known for their rapid, direct flight and sharp, chattering calls. Pacific Kingfishers are adaptable and can be found in a variety of habitats, including coastal areas, mangroves, and forested areas near water. While they are not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and degradation pose potential risks to their populations.
