Gavia pacifica
The Pacific Loon, also known as the Pacific Diver, is a migratory bird that breeds in the Arctic tundra and winters along the Pacific coast. It is a medium-sized loon with a distinctive black-and-white checkered back and a sleek profile. During the breeding season, it displays a striking black-and-white pattern on its head and neck. Pacific Loons are skilled divers and swimmers, using their webbed feet to propel themselves underwater in search of fish and crustaceans. They are known for their haunting calls and are often seen in small flocks during migration. Despite facing threats from habitat loss and pollution, the Pacific Loon's population is currently stable.
