Megascops cooperi

The Pacific Screech Owl (Megascops cooperi) is a small owl species native to western Mexico and parts of Central America. It is known for its distinctive trilling call and large, expressive eyes. These nocturnal birds are often found in a variety of habitats including forests, woodlands, and semi-open areas. They primarily feed on insects, small mammals, and birds. The Pacific Screech Owl is typically around 20-25 cm in length with a wingspan of 50-61 cm. Its plumage is a mix of brown, gray, and white, providing effective camouflage in its natural environment. While not currently assessed by the IUCN, their populations may face threats from habitat loss and deforestation.
