Pacific Wren

Troglodytes pacificus

The Pacific Wren, also known as the Winter Wren, is a small, secretive bird found in the dense undergrowth of coniferous forests in western North America. It is known for its energetic and melodious song, which it uses to communicate and defend its territory. This wren has a plump body, short tail, and a distinctive cocked tail posture. It forages for insects and spiders on the forest floor, using its slender bill to probe into crevices and leaf litter. The Pacific Wren is a year-round resident in its range, with some populations migrating to lower elevations in winter. Despite its small size, this wren is a hardy and adaptable species, thriving in the challenging environments of mountainous forests.
