Painted Manakin, Machaeropterus eckelberryi, is a passerine of the manakin family in north-west Peru, where it occurs in the Cordillera Azul and the hills of the upper Rio Mayo valley in San Martín and Loreto, above 500m. It was described in 2017 by Lane, Kratter and O’Neill. Its main distinguishing feature is its voice: it was recognised as a separate species on vocal differences alone, and it is otherwise said to match a striolated manakin subspecies. The species is known from the eastern slopes of the Cordillera Escalera and Cordillera Azul.
