Painted Parakeet Pyrrhura picta is a parrot of South America, breeding in Venezuela, the Guianas and northern Brazil. It belongs to the Psittacidae family and was first described by Müller in 1776. It is a bird of forests, forested savanna and coastal sand-ridge woodland, mainly in lowland areas but recorded up to 1,800 m. The species is monotypic. Adults and young are similar in appearance, and the nominate form shows a blue forehead, maroon head and nape, green upperparts, a red belly patch and a mostly maroon tail.
