Galloperdix spadicea

The Painted Spurfowl (Galloperdix spadicea) is a medium-sized bird found in the forests and scrublands of the Indian subcontinent. It is known for its striking plumage, with a combination of intricate patterns and vibrant colors. The male has a distinctive red facial patch and a black-spotted white belly, while the female is more cryptically colored. These birds are primarily ground-dwellers, foraging for seeds, insects, and small invertebrates. They are often heard making loud, repetitive calls during the breeding season. The Painted Spurfowl faces threats from habitat loss and hunting in some areas, and its conservation status is currently listed as Near Threatened by the IUCN.
