Palau Fruit Dove, Ptilinopus pelewensis, is a bird of the Columbidae family that breeds in Palau in the western Caroline Islands of Micronesia. It is endemic to Palau and is also the country’s national bird. The species was described by Hartlaub and Finsch in 1868. It is found across the islands in all habitats and is now common there after a decline caused by hunting before 1945. Both sexes are alike, and young birds differ from adults by lacking the purple cap and by having yellow-marked upperparts and a yellow belly.
