Podargidae — Frogmouths

Palawan Frogmouth, Batrachostomus chaseni, is a bird of the Podargidae family that breeds in the Palawan group in western Philippines and on Banggi north of north-east Borneo. It was described by Stresemann in 1937. It is linked to lowland forest in the Oriental Region, including primary forest and later growth with thick cover and bamboo. It has been treated as part of a wider frogmouth complex, but is set apart from Blyth’s frogmouth by white marks on the crown rather than black spotting.
