Pale-capped Pigeon

Columba punicea

The Pale-capped Pigeon is a medium-sized pigeon found in the forests and woodlands of northern Australia and New Guinea. It is recognized by its distinctive pale gray head and neck, contrasting with its rich maroon underparts. This species is known for its soft, repetitive cooing calls and its preference for feeding on fruit and seeds. It nests in trees, constructing flimsy platforms of twigs. The Pale-capped Pigeon plays an important role in seed dispersal within its habitat, contributing to the diversity of plant species. Despite facing habitat loss and hunting pressure in some areas, it is currently considered to be of Least Concern by the IUCN.
