Pale Chanting Goshawk

Melierax canorus (Thunberg, 1799)

Pale Chanting Goshawk, Melierax canorus, occurs in southern Africa from Angola to Zimbabwe and South Africa. It is a bird of prey in the Accipitridae family and lives in dry, open semi-desert with low rainfall, where it uses raised lookout points such as trees, poles and pylons. Its breeding nest is a small stick structure placed in a tree or on a pole. The species is also noted for a pale grey adult plumage, a white rump and a black-tipped tail, with young birds showing brown upperparts.
