Pale-mandibled Aracari

Pteroglossus erythropygius

The Pale-mandibled Aracari is a medium-sized toucan found in the humid forests of western Ecuador and northwestern Peru. It has a distinctive black head, bright yellow throat, and a red patch on its chest. The bill is long and slightly curved, with a pale yellow base and black tip. These birds are primarily frugivorous, feeding on a variety of fruits, but they may also consume insects and small vertebrates. They are often seen in small flocks, moving through the forest canopy in search of food. The Pale-mandibled Aracari plays an important role in seed dispersal within its habitat.
