Pale-tailed Canastero, Asthenes huancavelicae, is a passerine in the ovenbird family and breeds in south-central Peru. It was described by Morrison in 1938. The bird is found in dry country, especially scrub with columnar cacti, and also in nearby woodland. Its range is split between the Mantaro basin in Huancavelica and Ayacucho, and the Apurímac and Pampas basins in Ayacucho and Apurímac. It is a resident species. The two forms differ, with A. h. usheri paler overall and lacking the rufous tones on the rump and uppertail coverts seen in the nominate form.
