The Palm-nut vulture is a medium-sized bird of prey found in the forests and savannas of sub-Saharan Africa. With a wingspan of around 150 cm, it has a distinctive appearance with a white head, dark brown body, and striking yellow legs and beak. This vulture is specialized for feeding on the oily fruit of the oil palm, and it also scavenges for small vertebrates and invertebrates. Its soaring flight and keen eyesight make it an efficient hunter and scavenger. The Palm-nut vulture plays a crucial role in its ecosystem by helping to control populations of small mammals and birds. Despite some localized threats, its population is currently stable, and it is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
