Pantanal Snipe

Gallinago paraguaiae (Vieillot, 1816)

Pantanal Snipe, Gallinago paraguaiae, is a snipe of the family Scolopacidae found in tropical and subtropical wetlands of northern and central South America, from Trinidad and central and eastern Colombia through the Guianas to northern Argentina and Uruguay. It also occurs on Trinidad and Tobago and across most mainland South American countries. It is a monotypic species in the IOC treatment. The bird has a very long straight dark bill, short greenish-grey legs, and patterned upperparts with muted white, buff, rufous and black on brown. Its underparts are buff and white, with dark markings on the breast and flanks.
