Eurostopodus papuensis
The Papuan Frogmouth, scientifically known as Eurostopodus papuensis, is a nocturnal bird species found in the rainforests and woodlands of New Guinea and nearby islands. This unique bird is known for its large frog-like mouth, which it uses to catch insects and small vertebrates. With a cryptic plumage that provides excellent camouflage, the Papuan Frogmouth is often difficult to spot during the day as it perches motionless on branches. These birds are solitary and territorial, and their haunting calls can often be heard at night. They play a vital role in controlling insect populations in their habitat.
