The Papuan Hawk-Owl (Uroglaux dimorpha) is a small to medium-sized owl species native to the rainforests of New Guinea. It is characterized by its distinctive facial disc, prominent ear tufts, and dark brown plumage with white and buff markings. This nocturnal bird of prey primarily feeds on small mammals, birds, and insects. It hunts by perching and waiting for prey, then swooping down to capture it. The Papuan Hawk-Owl is known for its haunting, high-pitched calls that echo through the forest at night. Due to habitat loss and deforestation, the conservation status of this species is currently listed as Vulnerable by the IUCN.
