Papuan King Parrot, Alisterus chloropterus, lives in montane New Guinea except the north-west, and is also found in forested areas of central and eastern New Guinea. It belongs to the parrot family Psittaculidae and was first described by Ramsay in 1879. Its range includes subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest and moist montane forest, reaching up to 2600 m. The male shows a broad pale-green band on each wing, while the female varies more between subspecies.
