Papuan Parrotfinch

Erythrura papuana

The Papuan Parrotfinch (Erythrura papuana) is a small and colorful finch species native to the rainforests and forest edges of New Guinea and nearby islands. These birds are known for their vibrant plumage, with males displaying bright red and green colors, and females having more subdued green and yellow tones. They are social birds often found in small flocks, feeding on seeds, fruits, and insects. The Papuan Parrotfinch plays an important role in seed dispersal within its habitat. Despite being relatively common in its range, habitat loss and trapping for the pet trade pose threats to its populations.
