Chaetorhynchus papuensis
The Papuan Whipbird (Chaetorhynchus papuensis) is a small, secretive bird species found in the mountain forests of New Guinea. It is known for its distinctive whip-like call that echoes through the dense undergrowth. This species has a unique long, slender bill adapted for probing into leaf litter and moss for insects and small invertebrates. The Papuan Whipbird is often observed foraging alone or in pairs, and its cryptic plumage provides excellent camouflage among the dense vegetation. Due to habitat loss and fragmentation, the Papuan Whipbird faces increasing threats to its survival.
