Paramo Tapaculo, Scytalopus opacus, is a bird of the central Andes in Colombia and Ecuador, breeding from c Colombia to sc Ecuador. It belongs to the Rhinocryptidae family and was described by Zimmer, JT, 1941. It is a small tapaculo-like bird that resembles other Scytalopus tapaculos. The species occupies shrub and scrubland at and above treeline, and also occurs in Polylepis woodland and high-elevation humid forest. Its range is centred in the Andes, where it is found from southern Colombia to south-central Ecuador.
