Patagonian Tyrant

Colorhamphus parvirostris (Gould & Gray, GR, 1839)

Patagonian Tyrant, Colorhamphus parvirostris, is a passerine of southern Chile and south-western Argentina, breeding in South America from the Biobío area south to Tierra del Fuego. It is the only species in its genus and belongs to the Tyrannidae. In the breeding season it is tied mainly to Nothofagus forest, while at other times it also uses denser, moister woodland, as well as parks, gardens and urban places. It is a near-total migrant, leaving most of its breeding area for the austral winter, with only small numbers staying in the north.
