Pavonine Cuckoo, Dromococcyx pavoninus, breeds in South America from Guyana to northern Argentina. A cuckoo in the family Cuculidae, it was described by Pelzeln in 1870. It is a Neotropical bird with a long, stepped tail and a short crest. The head and crest are rusty brown, while the rest of the upperparts are mainly dark brown and the underparts are paler. A rich buff supercilium, throat and breast help separate it from the pheasant cuckoo, along with its larger size and different call.
