Pemba Scops Owl

Otus pembaensis

The Pemba Scops Owl (Otus pembaensis) is a small owl species endemic to the island of Pemba, off the coast of Tanzania. It is characterized by its reddish-brown plumage with intricate patterns, large yellow eyes, and a distinctive call that is often heard at night. These nocturnal birds are skilled hunters, preying on insects, small mammals, and birds. They are known to inhabit dense forests and wooded areas, where they roost in tree cavities during the day. Due to habitat loss and limited range, the Pemba Scops Owl is considered vulnerable to extinction.
